Good Citizens
Qualities make us good or bad. This is true to being good
citizens too. Social values are most important to them. They live peacefully,
sensibly and actively in the society. They
attach importance to co-operation. They work for the benefits of the community.
They are respectful to others. They have sympathy for those who need it. But
these qualities do not come easily to them. They need to prepare themselves for
these. They need to have knowledge, skills and attitudes for this. They need to
have good knowledge of the modern sciences and technologies. They are aware of
the political systems. They have knowledge about their state, the government, the
judicial system and the constitution of the state. They understand its people,
cultures, traditions, moral values, religions, socio-economic activities and
the educational system as well. Again,
skills are equally important for them. They apply their knowledge in practice. This
forms their attitudes. Once again, good citizens are impossible without good
character. It is the crown virtue of good men. People with pro-social character-
traits are pro-state. Thus good citizens have all the gems of good men. These gems make them gems of the
society.
